Description

In order to create a conceptual illustration explaining how serial two dimensional data is interpolated to create a full volumetric 3D data set (thumbnail #1 below), I developed a novel process to generate anatomical models with a volumetric rendered appearance in Cinema 4D. To begin, a set of serial slices stored as a series of JPEGS were generated from a polygonal anatomical model. Using Adobe Flash CS4 and ActionScripting, the serial slice data was converted into a VRML data set. The VRML data was re-imported into Cinema 4D, this resulted in the creation of a series of multi-polygonal planes in forms corresponding to the serial slices at various levels. The planes were then given volume using tools in the MoGraph module.

Project Description

Using a combination of technologies, I created six original colour illustrations for a paper on three-dimensional echocardiography - a tool used in the evaluation of cardiac structure and function.
